چکیده

We present a novel parametric message representation for belief propagation (BP) that provides a novel grid-based way to address the cooperative localization problem in wireless networks. The proposed Grid-BP approach allows faster calculations than non-parametric representations and works well with existing grid-based coordinate systems, e.g., NATO’s military grid reference system (MGRS). This overcomes the hidden challenge inherent in all distributed localization algorithms that require a universally known global reference system (GCS), even though every node localizes using arbitrary local coordinate systems (LCSs) for a reference. Simulation results demonstrate that GridBP achieves similar accuracy at much reduced complexity when compared to common techniques that assume ideal reference.

Cooperative Localization for Mobile Networks: A Distributed Belief Propagation - Mean Field Message Passing Algorithm

We propose a hybrid message passing method for distributed cooperative localization and tracking of mobile agents. Belief propagation (BP) and mean field (MF) message passing are employed for, respectively, the motion-related and measurement-related parts of the underlying factor graph. Using a Gaussian belief approximation, closed-form expressions of all messages are obtained, and only three r...

Cooperative localization in mobile networks using nonparametric variants of belief propagation

Of the many state-of-the-art methods for cooperative localization in wireless sensor networks (WSN), only very few adapt well to mobile networks. The main problems of the well-known algorithms, based on nonparametric belief propagation (NBP), are the high communication cost and inefficient sampling techniques. Moreover, they either do not use smoothing or just apply it offline. Therefore, in th...

Distributed Localization and Tracking of Mobile Networks Including Noncooperative Objects - Extended Version

We introduce a framework and methodology of cooperative simultaneous localization and tracking (CoSLAT) in decentralized mobile agent networks. CoSLAT provides a consistent combination of cooperative self-localization (CSL) and distributed target tracking (DTT). Multiple mobile targets and mobile agents are tracked using pairwise measurements between agents and targets and between agents. We pr...

Nonparametric generalized belief propagation based on pseudo-junction tree for cooperative localization in wireless networks

Non-parametric belief propagation (NBP) is a well-known message passing method for cooperative localization in wireless networks. However, due to the over-counting problem in the networks with loops, NBP’s convergence is not guaranteed, and its estimates are typically less accurate. One solution for this problem is non-parametric generalized belief propagation based on junction tree. However, t...

A Survey of Information Geometry in Iterative Receiver Design, and Its Application to Cooperative Positioning Master of Science Thesis in Communication Engineering

Belief propagation is a powerful procedure to perform inference, and exhibits near-optimal performance in iterative decoding/demapping. However, a complete analysis of the iterative process is still lacking, and convergence of the procedure has not proved in general cases. Information geometry offers a new view from differential geometry to understand this problem. In this thesis, we try to und...
